A Statistical Method to Construct Confidence Sets on Carrion Insect Age from Development Stage
نویسندگان
چکیده
The age of a carrion insect associated with a corpse may represent a minimum post mortem interval. No method has been proposed before for constructing a confidence set on age based on development stage modeled as a categorical response. This paper illustrates the application of exact p values, first developed for succession data, to con struct a confidence set on a carrion insect’s age based only on its development stage. It uses published development data for Lucilia sericata, with individuals reared at different temperatures pooled into sets of similar age as indexed in accumulated degree hours. Rates of coverage of true ages, assessed using each insect as a singleton holdout sample, were greater than the nominal 95% level.

The Role of a PMI-Prediction Model in Evaluating Forensic Entomology Experimental Design, the Importance of Covariates, and the Utility of Response Variables for Estimating Time Since Death
The most common forensic entomological application is the estimation of some portion of the time since death, or postmortem interval (PMI). To our knowledge, a PMI estimate is almost never accompanied by an associated probability. Statistical methods are now available for calculating confidence limits for an insect-based prediction of PMI for both succession and development data. In addition to...
متن کاملRayleigh Confidence Regions based on Record Data
This paper presents exact joint confidence regions for the parameters of the Rayleigh distribution based on record data. By providing some appropriate pivotal quantities, we construct several joint confidence regions for the Rayleigh parameters. These joint confidence regions are useful for constructing confidence regions for functions of the unknown parameters. Applications of the joint confid...
متن کاملSuccession pattern of carrion-feeding insects in Paramo, Colombia.
The minimum postmortem interval can be estimated based on knowledge of the pattern of insect succession on a corpse. To use this approach requires that we take into account the rates of insect development associated with particular climatological conditions of the region. This study is the first to look at insect succession on decomposing carcasses in the high altitude plains (Paramo) in Colomb...
متن کاملAnalysis of the successional patterns of insects on carrion in southwest Virginia.
Studies of carrion-insect succession on domestic pig, Sus scrofa L., were conducted in the spring and summer of 2001 and 2002 in Blacksburg, VA, to identify and analyze the successional patterns of the taxa of forensic importance in southwest Virginia. Forty-seven insect taxa were collected in the spring. These were represented by 11 families (Diptera: Calliphoridae, Sarcophagidae, Muscidae, Se...

Software project management is one of the significant activates in the software development process. Software Development Effort Estimation (SDEE) is a challenging task in the software project management. SDEE is an old activity in computer industry from 1940s and has been reviewed several times. A SDEE model is appropriate if it provides the accuracy and confidence simultaneously before softwa...
